Web Crawlability

The ability of a search engine to crawl content on a website is referred to as web crawlability. If a site has no crawlability issue then web crawlers can access all the content easily by following the links.

Google has their bot (an agent of a search engine) sometimes called a crawler or spider.

These bots or spiders are responsible to find and index new web content and web page.

Broken links or dead ends might result in crawlability issue. 

There are many tools available to check the broken links.

Some of the free tools are –  Broken link checker (Upto 3000 URLs), Ahrefs broken links checker, and screaming frog (upto 500urls)

Paid tools – Semrush, Ahrefs, Ubersuggest.

To resolve the broken links issue you can simply replace the  broken link with the working link or remove the link if there are several valuable internal links already present on the page.

What affects crawlability and indexability?

  1. Site structure
  2. Internal linking structure
  3. Loop redirects
  4. Server errors

What can you do to make a website crawlable and indexable?

  1. Submit your sitemap into Google search console.
  2. Strengthen internal links.
  3. Regularly update and add new good content.
  4. avoid duplicate content 
  5. Speed up your page load-up time.
 

Index tag/  noindex tag

Indexability on other hand refers to the search engine’s ability to analyze and add a page to its index.

The reason why your website is not indexing in SERP is.

There might be a chance your website is following noindex tag.

You can simply check in your source code if your website is following a noindex tag.

We have to mark our website with index tags if it uses noindex tags, which means the website cannot be crawled.
