The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) has set forth new set of standards (click here to see the standards) for measuring the sustainability performance of communities, buildings and large-scale villa developments in the Emirate.
In an ongoing effort to establish Abu Dhabi’s sustainable status, the ambitious Pearl Rating System (PRS), which was launched in 2009, has been recently updated by Estidama, the UPC managed programm to promote sustainability and enhance liveability in Abu Dhabi.
Just on element of the sweeping Abu Dhabi 2030 Plan, the PRS is the first of its kind in the Arab world and provides a set of measurable guidlines for rating sustainability performance across Estidama’s four pillars and economy, environment, society and culture. The system addresses seven categories including Integrated Development Process, Natural Systems, Liveable Communities and Buildings, Water Energy Materials and Innovating Practice.
The PRS establishes Abu Dhabi regional and global leadership in sustainable urban development, and provides and reliable sustainability benchmark tool for the region at large as per Estidama’s cross disciplinary approach.
