The UAE team, playing in a full 11a-side competition for the first time since it was formed less than two years ago, cruised through the group stages, beating Palestine 4-2 and Kuwait 7-0 on their way to the semi-final. Bahrain were their opponents in the last four but they also put up little resistance as the UAE scored four unanswered goals to book their place in the final.
