Warning: Herbal Medicines can be harmful!

Herbal medicines if taken in large quantities, injected, or combined with prescription drugs, can prove potentially lethal, experts have warned.

Professor Roger Byard, University of Adelaide, highlighted the highly toxic nature of many herbal substances that often mistakenly considered safe.

The forensic pathologist said: “There’s a false perception that herbal remedies are safer than manufactured medicines, when in fact many contain potentially lethal concentrations of arsenic, mercury and lead which may lead to a malignant Mesothelioma which is not easy to cure though possible cure can be done but it takes sometimes and financially costly.

“These substances may cause serious illnesses, exacerbate pre-existing health problems or result in death, particularly if taken in excess or injected rather than ingested.”

The expert also warned against the risks arising from the interaction between herbal medicines and prescription drugs that could lead serious health damage, including liver, renal and cardiac failure, strokes, movement disorders, muscle weakness and seizures.

Professor Byard said: “Herbal medicines are frequently mixed with standard drugs, presumably to make them more effective. This can also have devastating results.”

Technology Upgrade: Hand Solution…

Did you know that one of the leading companies of i-LIMB device, the Touch Bionics Company, is making available a new finger prosthesis system? Yes you hear it right! ProDigits, a customizable platform that can be adapted to the needs of individual patients, provides electronically powered artificial fingers that can grasp and manipulate objects. The new hand can also be used for more advanced tasks such as typing on a keyboard. Take a look at this press release!

Each individually powered ProDigit or prosthetic finger provides myoelectric control that has never been possible before. Now patients or users with between 1-5 missing fingers have a solution for what was once a highly debilitating condition.

There are physical criteria that dictate whether ProDigits are appropriate or not – candidates must have ‘Amputation at Transmetacarpal Level’ or higher of one or more fingers. It is possible to support candidates with a portion of the finger remaining, however, this does affect the aesthetics of the overall prosthesis.

The articulating digit underpins much of Touch Bionics’ technical advantage and it is this articulation that provides the biggest benefit to the patient or user. With the ability to bend, touch, pick-up and point – the ProDigits used within an overall prosthesis reflect the function of a natural hand more.

The modular nature of each ProDigit and the individually powered motor located within each digit means that the clinician can build a replacement prosthesis that is close to the patient or users missing anatomy. Solutions can be built to match the sound side or any remaining fingers. Thumb solutions can be built using either powered or non-powered options. Sockets are custom-designed and fabricated for each individual’s needs.

ProDigits can be controlled via inputs from either FSR (Force Sensitive Resistor) or Remote Electrodes through the wireless security systems – either input option is chosen on the basis of either the signal site, the available space and patient or user preference. The control strategy is based on a traditional myoelectric regime, however, Touch Bionics has developed Bluetooth™ enabled solutions that mean the clinician can adjust the finer motor functions to the specific patient or user. A unique stall feature allows patients or users to point single digits for typing, hand gestures or the use of a telephone – amongst other everyday tasks.

Its a great thing to know that the vast upgrade of our technology nowadays is pretty so fast! Just as like as this artticle tells us that those people who were unable to live normally because of the physical defect they’re given a chance now to do what they want specifically people who do have a hand problem can now move their hand through this equipment.

Movie Review: From Paris with Love…

Dir Pierre Morel, starring John Travolta, Jonathon Rhys Meyers.

Those who remember Travolta from the big - haired baby - faced hipster days of Saturday Night Fever and grease may do a double - take at the sight of him in his latest role. Big -faced and with little hair - except for a rather distrubing goatee - his appearance is rather unsettling. That just about sums up his performance, too.

James Reese (Meyers) has an enviable life in Paris - a comfortable job as personal aide to the US Ambassador plus beautiful girlfriend.But James craves excitement, and hopes that his sideline as a low - level operative for the CIA will lead to a full - time job as a bona fide agent. On his first senior assignment he is partnered with a pistol - wielding loose cannon called Charlie Wax ( Travolta ); as he’s lead on a dangerous tour through Paris, James realizes the desk job might not be such a bad career choice after all…

There’s a certain entertainment value in this film, but its doused by over-acting and too many far-fetched , confusing twists and turns in the telling. Travolta’s dismal performance and a badly directed script will give anyone a fever - day or night.

For those of you who did not have a chance yet to watch the movie, better grab your chance now to visit your nearest malls to watch the movie. I’m pretty so sure you’ll definitely had a great day out for the said movie. Okay! That’s it for now ’cause I still have to find a promotional products as per my boss ask me to search for one. For the upcoming Open House Day of our Company which will be on 3rd week of March. He wants to advertise our products and services by giving a promotional products. Have a great movie everyone!

I’m the father of two young ahtletic boys. They are constantly getting bruises when they play sports. What is the best treatment?

The best practice to follow is the RICE Treatment.

R - est right after the game.

I - ce will reduce swelling and pain and promote healing - apply ice for 15 - 20 minutes three or more times a day. Wrap a towel around the bag of ice before applying it to the injury to prevent frost bite. (Ice is preferable to a chemical cold pack because it stays cold longer.) After about 48 - 72 hours and if the swelling is gone, heat in the form of a warm wash cloth applied to the bruises for 10 minutes two or three times a day may increase blood flow to the bruised area, allowing the skin to reabsorb the blood more quickly.

C - ompression or wrapping the bruised area with an elastic ace bandage will decrease swelling. Do not wrap the bandage too tightly, through, otherwise the person will experience numbness, tingling, increased pain, coolness or swelling in the area below the bandage.

E - levate the bruised area on pillows while applying ice and any time when sitting or lying down. Keep it above the level of the heart to minimize swelling.

Seek medical attention if the bruises…

* is accompanied by swelling and extreme pain and / or if a bone is possibly broken.
* is painful and under a toenail or fingernail;
* happens easily or for no apparent reason;
* is on the head and the person cannot remember what happened or lost consciousness.

You should also seek advice if the injured person is on a blood - thinning medication. May this tips will definitely help you guys as it helps my sons. Okay! That’s it for now ’cause I still have to check this uppababy vista I’ve found earlier as I was looking for a stroller for my little Nephew. This site will definitely help my Sissy and probably I’ll refer this to my Sis either. I actually find a stroller at them and was planning to buy by first week if March when salary comes. Thanks!
